Not long ago, God showed me I had been blind to the pain of my wife, Lyndi. It’s a humbling admission. Imagine, the founder of a men’s movement dedicated to honoring Jesus and family didn’t have his own act together at home! My wake-up call came when a preacher said, “Do you want to know the character of a man? Look into the face of his wife. Whatever he has invested in her or withheld from her will be reflected in her countenance.” That preacher went through Scripture, showing me God has mandated that every man draw his wife to splendor in Jesus Christ. I looked at Lyndi, and instead of splendor, I saw pain. I knew then, for the sake of our marriage and the testimony of Jesus Christ in my life, that I had to choose. I resigned as football coach at the University of Colorado to devote myself to Lyndi. I wanted to do my part as a husband so God could bring Lyndi back to her glory, and I have not regretted it. —Bill McCartney, founder of Promise Keepers Various Authors, Men of Integrity: A Daily Guide to the Bible and Prayer (Nashville: Thomas Nelson, 1999). 21 Laws of Discipleship -- the book -- |
